EFA Language School ready for a bumper summer

The summer of 2022 will see the return of a Torbay institution, as we prepare to welcome young guests from across Europe at our fantastic array of language schools.

After two years of Covid uncertainty, EFA Language School is already looking at a fully-booked summer season.

The interest has been so high from European students that Directors Peter and Andrea Hughes are already close to capacity at EFA, but they do have the ongoing challenge of finding host families to accommodate our guests.

“We have just finished courses with a school from Denmark, our first for two years, and we’re now gearing up for a busy summer,” said Peter.

“The Language School has been empty for the past two years, for obvious reasons. Youngsters weren’t allowed to travel from countries with Covid and host families were unable to welcome students because of the restrictions.

“Thankfully, this year is looking like a bumper season and we’ve already had to turn away some groups in July because we’re totally full. We have a group from the Czech Republic in June and July is totally full.

“We welcome students from across Europe; youngsters from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic and Denmark. As an example, a teacher from an Italian school contacted us with an expression of interest and the first course is already up to 55 students.

“There is a real appetite abroad for people to return to Torquay. The students are a part of our summer tradition and it will be fabulous to have them back.

“The challenge we’ve got is finding enough host families. There have been families with us for years, who have now decided to step down, while other families who were previously reliant on income from students have taken up part-time jobs during Covid.

“We are actively looking for host families in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. If you have a family with a couple of kids, it is a fantastic way to introduce them to a different language and an opening to the world. Our students have full programs all week, so the reliance on host families is limited. ”
