Florida Gov. DeSantis supports $ 80 million for UF Health Jacksonville

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday in Jacksonville he will keep $ 80 million in the budget approved by the state Legislature for a new UF Health Jacksonville trauma center that will be named in Honor of the late Leon Haley Jr., who died a year ago while serving as the hospital CEO.

DeSantis, flanked by family members of Haley, said that while he is still scrutinizing line items in the Legislature-approved budget, he supports the money for UF Health Jacksonville.

They said the hospital will replace its “outdated and overcrowded trauma center” by building a “state of the art” facility providing the highest Level 1 emergency care.

“It’s fitting that we’re able to use this facility to honor Dr. Haley’s Legacy,” DeSantis said. “This will be a major, major institution throughout this region. This is a big investment, but I think it’s a warranted investment.”
