Govt Advises People Not to Travel Abroad during Eid al-Fitr Holidays

TEMPO.CO, JakartaCoordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto asked the public to refrain from traveling abroad during the long holidays of Eid al-Fitr 1443 Hijr in order to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

“During the long holidays, people are advised not to travel abroad because we know the [pandemic] situation in other countries is not the same as in Indonesia, so there is potential for virus transmission from abroad, ”said Airlangga after a limited meeting on the evaluation of the public mobility restrictions (PPKM) led by President Joko Jokowi Widodo at the Merdeka Palace , Jakarta, Monday, April 18.

According to him, foreign countries still see an upward trend in COVID-19 cases, such as China’s Shanghai, which forced the local authorities to enforce a regional lockdown.

Airlangga emphasized that the pandemic is not yet over given the rising case numbers. He reminded that there should be no imported cases that could trigger a surge in local transmission.

The country’s COVID-19 Task Force, meanwhile, recorded that Indonesia’s trend on virus transmission has declined significantly as of mid-April 2022. On Sunday, April 17, Indonesia only reported 607 new daily cases and 58,278 active cases.
