This role will work alongside the Director of REF and Research impact to provide practical day-to-day leadership, organization and direction for the university in the planning, oversight and management of activities related to KEF and our Knowledge Exchange activity. This will include oversight of processes to improve data collection for our HE-BCI submission developing coordination of knowledge exchange activities across King’s linking IP, Entrepreneurship, partnerships (industry, public and third sector) and engagement, CPD and skills training functions.
The post will work with key stakeholders to develop and support the delivery of impact, focusing on mechanisms of how to achieve impact through policy engagement, business development and commercialization and clinical uptake (where appropriate) across Faculties.
This post will be offered on an indefinite contract
This is a full-time post, although applications at 0.8FTE will also be considered.
Knowledge Exchange Framework
- Provide strategic advice and support to the Vice-Principal (Research), Dean of Research Impact, the Operations Director (Research & Researchers), Provosts, VPs (London / Service) Deans and the wider King’s Senior Management Team to secure the best possible KEF performance for King’s.
- To engage, oversee and secure the development and implementation of clear policy and procedure and practical management arrangements for future KEF submissions;
- To oversee the provision of appropriate support and training on matters relating to knowledge exchange policy (including for example the training required in the run up to the next KEF);
- To oversee the effective support for the committees and activities in the university governance structure for KEF
- To work across the University to ensure that the support system for KEF submissions is clear, well understood and appropriately resourced;
- To oversee and lead on all areas of KEF submissions, and ensure that appropriate advice, guidance and practical support is provided – and where there are issues that these are surfaced and escalated in a timely and appropriate fashion;
- To develop and maintain strong working relationships with external bodies such as the funding bodies and UKRI, and act as the primary university contact for KEF and represent the university at the Russell Group meetings of KEF leads;
- To work proactively with Provosts, Deans and Academic, RMID, and Faculty professional services and academic staff to secure shared understanding, common practice and successful outcomes from KEF competitions
Knowledge Exchange Concordat
- Develop KEC action plan to support King’s to become a signatory of the Knowledge Exchange Concordat.
One King’s Impact
- Lead bridging across Faculties, functions and directorates to improve coordination of impact and impact activities. Work with the Dean of Research Impact and the Policy Institute, as well as Service, London and Engagement directorates, to help deliver One King’s Impact in the context of the Strategy Refresh.
- Lead / coordinate activity to measure, evaluate and enhance knowledge exchange performance across the university.
Public and Community Engagement
- Provide leadership to develop and deliver P&CE strategy, including mechanisms to improve College P&CE funding, oversee provision of P&CE activity using existing expertise within King’s.
King’s Impact strategy
- Work with the Director of REF and Research impact to develop and deliver College-wide impact strategy, working with the Dean of Research Impact and taking ownership of areas matching strengths and skills.

- First-hand experience of managing KE activities
- Be a clear strategic and policy thinker, a great organizer and influencer and an adept problem solver.
- A proven track-record of excellent organization and management, with experience of managing processes and delivering through and with others.
- Proven experience of leadership and project management, assuring both for day-today practical delivery and persevering through times of transition and change.
- Strong influencing and motivational skills, with the ability to engage Academic staff and energize professional services and research management / support staff.
- A team-player, working well with peers across ‘matrixed’ professional communities, engendering a culture of open dialogue and appropriate constructive challenge with peers; with a particular emphasis on working in partnership.
- The ability to manage multiple and demanding senior stakeholders.
- An ability to be tough-minded, when necessary, with a diplomatic style, and demonstrate resilience and flexibility in managing the natural challenges and culture of a university in what is a high stakes public process.
