What You Need To Know
- Latin American Festival is happening this weekend in Gastonia
- It’s happening at the WOW Supermarket located at 2557 West Franklin Blvd
- It runs from 11 am to 7 pm
Officer Alvaro Jaimes, who is the Latinx community liaison officer with the Gastonia Police Department, organized the event.
As an officer with the department for the last 18 years, he transitioned to his role as Latinx community liaison officer two years ago.
In his role, he wants to build trust, and he says this festival is one way to do that.
“The easiest way, that I feel, that connects our community for the most part through a festival where things are more relaxed, where we can just walk and talk, walk and bump and talk to each other about anything,” he said. “They’ll talk about the laws, they’ll bring their kids, we just do a better bonding when it comes to some place that is more relaxed.”
He hopes everyone in the community comes out.
“For me to do what I am doing now, just getting the community and different cultures together is a dream come true,” he said.
The event is happening at the WOW Supermarket in Gastonia, at 2557 West Franklin Boulevard.
They’ll have vendors, music, food and more.
