Leeds United future up in the air for Ian Poveda

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Ian Poveda’s future at Leeds United is “up in the air”, according to former goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Poveda, 22, has spent the season on loan at Blackburn Rovers but has not played for the Championship club since breaking his ankle in November.

However, the ex-Manchester City winger has spent the last few months recovering at Leeds and has returned to training with the Whites [James Marshment, TeamTalk].

Although he was back at Thorp Arch, Poveda’s loan deal at Blackburn remains active and he could technically still play for them before this season finishes.

Either way, Robinson expects Poveda to return to Leeds properly in the summer and bid to impress Jesse Marsch because the pundit is unsure of what the future holds for the attacker.

“He’s an exciting young talent he was brought from Manchester City but we’ve not seen much of him since he was loaned out this season”Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

You don’t know what the previous manager’s plans were for him.

He’s one of those ones whose future is really up in the air and without knowing what’s going on inside the current manager’s head, you don’t know.

Poveda’s probably one of those players who’ll be brought back into the squad in pre-season for Marsch to look at and make a decision on once he’s seen him on the training ground.

I think he’s got an opportunity to impress the manager but his future is really up in the air.

Poveda’s quick, he’s direct and he has an impact off the bench. ”

Poveda made eight appearances, scored one goal and supplied two assists for Blackburn before his ankle injury.

He’s made 20 appearances in all competitions for Leeds and almost all of them have been as a substitute.

In other Leeds United news, this “exciting” player is worse off under Marsch than he was when Bielsa was in charge.
