Melbourne police officer allegedly bitten, punched repeatedly in car ramming

A police officer has allegedly been bitten on the arm and punched in the head multiple times during a car ramming in Melbourne’s south-east this morning.

Police said officers were called to reports of a burglary at a business in Dandenong South just after 3am.

“Upon arrival, the offending vehicle, a Toyota Hiace van, was allegedly rammed into the police divisional van on Langley Street,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“A short scuffle has occurred between the two male offenders and two police officers, before the offenders fled in the Hiace van.”

Polcie said one of the male constables was taken to hospital for treatment after he was bitten on the arm and punched in the head multiple times.

Police said the Hiace van later collided with an Audi on Alma Road in St Kilda East, just before 7am.

The driver of the van, a 28-year-old Dandenong man, suffered serious injuries while his passenger, a 32-year-old Mornington man, received minor injuries.

Both men were trapped in the van before emergency crews could rescue them and take them to hospital under police guard.

Police said the driver of the Audi, a 26-year-old Balwyn man, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
