ccording to the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, Fox Lodge was built about 1800 (although the property listing differs).

Kilskyre village, sometimes Kilskeer, took its name from St Scíre, who established her church there to be later sacked by Vikings in the tenth century.

The remnants of a medieval church can still be seen in the village, in part of an interesting little complex of antiquities that also includes a tower house and a 17th-century tomb chest.

Hazelwood House, a few hundred meters from the ruins, arrived in the early 20th century, and has been extensively renovated recently, including damp-proofing and insulation.
