Police sent a message of reassurance to the public following a car meet in Brighton Hill

POLICE are appealing to car meet organizers in Basingstoke to seek the relevant permission, after they were called to a large unauthorized gathering at a supermarket car park over the weekend.

Officers received a report at 10.09pm on Saturday, July 30, that a number of vehicles had gathered at the Asda car park on Brighton Way.

They responded, but the cars had dispersed across the town and then made their way out of the county.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “The local neighborhood policing team will review incidents and reports of anti-social or dangerous driving linked to unauthorized car meets and, where there is evidence of offences, we will take further action.

“We would like to reassure local residents that we continue to proactively monitor information and intelligence, and work closely with partners and landowners.

“Officers would like to remind organizers of events that they must seek permission from the landowner and the district or city council.”
