Rail users advised to use Junction as Lea Green car park constructed

THE council has issued a reminder that rail users are advised to use St Helens Junction when possible ahead of the construction of the new car park at Lea Green.

The existing car park at Lea Green is to close from August 21, with a 450-space new facility to be created.

The improvements form part of the £15m St Helens Southern Gateway project, funded by the Combined Authority’s Transforming Cities Fund.

As car parking at the station will be significantly reduced for the duration of the construction work, rail customers who usually drive to Lea Green station are being advised to use nearby St Helens Junction station where possible until the new car park is ready in spring 2023.

Parking spaces will continue to be available for disabled residents, with drop-off and pick-up facilities remaining in place.

Encouraging the use of public and active transport, work has also been taking place to install a number of new walking and cycling routes in the area, connecting Lea Green to nearby residential, leisure and employment areas.

Other significant upgrades include a new station building at Lea Green with waiting room, toilets and other customer facilities, as well as a new signalized junction replacing the roundabout by the Bull and Dog pub next to the station.
