The 9th Annual Houston Latin Fest Returns to Midtown Park

Houston is home to the nation’s fourth-largest Hispanic / Latino population in the US, sitting at more than 2.7 million. Since 2013, the Houston Latin Fest has pushed back on the monolithic idea of ​​Latin America and its people – and it’s back for another round in Midtown Park on Saturday, April 24.

Preserving the breadth of Latin cultures across the city, the family-friendly festival has grown to be one of the most diverse experiences in Houston. The event offers a full representation of all Latin countries through art, food and music. Eric E, the organizer of Houston Latin Fest, knew that it would be a hit, as it was his mission to cultivate a space for all regions and backgrounds.

“We are able to braid all of our heritage into one event and actually come together to keep that essence of our culture still striving,” he says. Houstonia. “It’s also helpful for parents of first and second generations to teach their kids about the culture and spark a little interest. With the event, we’re actually able to teach and preserve that. ”

What sets Houston Latin Fest apart from similar events is its emphasis on local talent. Some of the performances include Dominican singer and rapper Nandi Versátil, Brazilian artist Rumba Bacana, Venezuelan performance group Venezuela Tambor y Danza, and many more folkloric groups from different countries.

This year’s event will also include vendors selling items from their native countries and more than 13 different food vendors who will provide traditional Latin cuisines. Guest will be able to enjoy food from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Peru.

As an event that caters to not only one demographic, but the entire Latin community, the Houston Latin Fest is a vital addition to the ever-growing diversity of people.

The Houston Latin Fest will take place Sunday, April 24, from 1 to 10 pm at Midtown Park. Pre-sale tickets are available for $ 10; children 12 and under are free.
