Urdu: Mumbai: SP MLA demands Urdu language in BEST bus ticketing app | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh petitioned state environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, demanding that the popular digital ticketing app – Chalo – for BEST buses should be available for commuters in Urdu language.
Shaikh said that there were several commuters who would benefit if the app was in Urdu.
“This will also encourage more people to switch to digital tickets. Also, what is surprising is that the app is available in nine languages including English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. But it is not in Urdu. This is uncalled for, “he pointed out.
He has also sent a letter to BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra.
Both Thackeray and Chandra were not available for comment on this issue.
While senior BEST officials declined to comment, a source from the undertaking said that “request from MLA is being looked into.”
Shaikh said that the BMC had Urdu medium schools where there were nearly 80,000 students and many of them used the BEST buses for travel. “There are other private Urdu medium schools as well,” he said.
Activist Irfan Machiwala, while supporting the demand, said: “Many Muslims travel by BEST bus. It will be helpful for people who have studied in Urdu medium school.”
